Short description

Screw jack gearboxes as linear motion transmissions are used in all applications where infinitely variable and accurately controllable lifting, lowering, feeding, pressing, tilting, swivelling and similar motions requiring a very high positioning precision are to be carried out, i.e. where rotary motions are to be converted into linear motions. It does not matter whether these are horizontal, vertical, pushing or pulling. Proper functioning is ensured in any mounting position.

Advantages of screw jack gearboxes with trapezoidal thread spindles and nuts as compared to other systems are, among others, their inherent statical self-locking capacity, when the drive comes to a standstill, and the extremely low maintenance requirements.

Screw jack gearboxes are self-contained drive mechanisms in compact design, robust, shock-absorbent and silent. Therefore they can be quite easily incorporated into various constructions. A total efficiency of 20-30 % has already been considered in our selection and calculation sheets.

Our high-performance and standard screw jack gearboxes, illustrated in detail in clearly arranged general views on pages 10–53, belong to our ex-stock product range and are available with rotating or non-rotating spindles and optionally with a travelling speed of 1 mm per revolution of the input shaft (=1.5 m/min at n1 = 1500 min-1) or 0.25 mm per revolution of the input shaft (=0.375 m/min at n1 = 1500 min-1).

The mounting examples shown in the catalogue are only a small selection from the multitude of possible applications and mounting variations of screw jack gearboxes.

High-performance screw jack gearboxes have been newly designed with aluminium casing, integrally cast cooling ribs and oil bath lubrication, thus ensuring an improved heat dissipation with higher lifting speeds and permitting a longer duty cycle. They meet highest requirements regarding transmission efficiency and accuracy. Due to the use of highly functional bearings and supports it is possible to permit 20 % higher static loads (overshooting etc.) compared with the standard version. For this gear-unit series we generally use hardened threaded spindles and – in the case of rotating spindles – heavy-duty running nuts as well as electronically controlled lubricators.

If for constructional reasons the available mounting space is limited so that small gear units must be chosen and if, for instance, because of a high dust concentration at the site, dust protecting bellows should be used, our heavy-duty nuts can additionally be equipped with a compressed-air connection for cooling in order to achieve an improved performance. Please let us know your requirements and wishes so that we can work out suitable suggestions and offers.

In the case of rotating spindles with a relatively long stroke it is possible to install threaded spindles from bigger gear-unit sizes in order to increase the buckling strength. Please inquire!
